Compass Birmingham MHST: Supporting Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Our School
We are now a Compass school. What does this mean?
We are delighted to share that our school is working in partnership with Compass Birmingham Mental Health Support Team (MHST) to provide vital emotional wellbeing and mental health support for our pupils and families.
What is Compass MHST?
Compass MHST is an early-intervention service that works directly with schools across Birmingham to support children and young people aged 5–19 who may be experiencing mild to moderate emotional health challenges. These can include:
- Anxiety and irrational fears
- Low mood and motivation
- Anger or frustration
- Difficulties in family or peer relationships
- Adjusting to change and transitions
Support is delivered through one-to-one or group sessions, typically over 6–8 weeks, and is tailored to the needs of each child. The team also works with schools to promote a whole-school approach to positive mental health.
What Can Parents Expect?
Parents and carers can expect:
- Early intervention and prevention: Workshops, assemblies, and group activities to promote resilience and wellbeing.
- Direct support for your child: Evidence-based strategies using low-intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
- Parent-focused programmes: Including the Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) course and “Beyond Behaviours” sessions to help manage challenging behaviours.
- Easy access to help: You can request support by contacting the school or reaching out directly to Compass MHST at 0121 227 8254 or birminghammhst@compass-uk.org.
Parents/carers you can refer your child- the timeframe from contacting and your child being seen is typically 3 weeks. Click the link below:
